Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated three young children who drank radiator coolant in Gippsland on Wednesday. The diluted coolant had apparently been stored in a soft drink bottle in a shed.

The Latrobe Valley based Air Ambulance Helicopter was called to treat the three children all aged under 10. Intensive care flight paramedic Ben Meadley said the children are okay.

‘Thankfully the coolant didn’t make the three children seriously ill,’ Mr Meadley said. ‘They were treated and then flown by air ambulance helicopter to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

‘It highlights the risks that are in backyard sheds, laundry cupboards and even medicine cabinets. Children are curious and things happen in the blink of an eye.

‘It’s a timely reminder to ensure chemicals, household cleaners and medicine are stored in child-proof containers out of reach of children,’ Mr Meadley said.
